19" Antique Wooden Carved Standing Altar Crucifix Silver w/ Ladder and 2 Spears in Background and Gold tone Skull & bones (Golgotha). Measures 19" tall, 7 1/2" wide and 2 3/4" in depth. A lot of symbolism in this piece. Over the right shoulder of Jesus is a ladder that starts at his feet and crosses behind his body above his right shoulder. The ladder represents His transcendence into Heaven. Over His left shoulder are two spears: one is the spear that had a sponge on the end used to offer a drink to Jesus; the other spear was used to stab His side to confirm His death. Below his feet is a gold tone skull and bones metal piece. Tradition says that Golgotha, where Jesus was crucified, is the burial place of Adam, the first man. The skull and crossbones represent Adam's bones being washed by Christ's blood, symbolizing redemption. Most likely carved in Mahogany. Intricate carvings of flowers and foliage. A very beautiful and detailed piece for your prayer corner. Please take time to look at the pictures to admire the magnificent workmanship of this special Altar Crucifix.
