32" Tall Antique Imperial Style Reliquary Cross Decorated with Brass Sheets, faux Pearls and Cabochon Gems and Byzantine Engolpions

32" Tall Antique Imperial Style Reliquary Cross Decorated with Brass Sheets, faux Pearls and Cabochon Gems and Byzanstine Engolpions created by a talented metalsmith. The Cross measures 32 3/4" tall and 22" wide. The large brass base has a diameter of 7". Sheets of textured brass have been formed and tacked to the cross with nails. The four ends of the cross have Byzanstine Engolpions. The center is a round reliquary that opens to house any special relic. It has two brass hinges and a hook closure. The center is circled in multi colored rhinestones. The back of the cross has copy of the 12th-century South Netherlandish plaque depicting with John the Baptist baptizing Jesus in the Jordan River, with an angel holding Christ's garment. The base is brass with decorative detail. There are embossed leaves and grapes are painted on the base. The base does show some wear as shown in pictures. The cross sits atop the base and has a tendency to teeter side to side, but never has fallen off. Very rare and unusual reliquary.
